Experts emphasized the importance of early identification and timely implantation to maximize speech and language outcomes followed by the structured speech therapy in developing listening and communication skills. A major focus was on family-centred practices in rehabilitation, recognizing parents as primary partners in the child’s progress. Consistent device usage and home-based reinforcement strategies were discussed as critical factors for success. The workshop also featured an expert talk by Mst. Basyariatal Fathi Binti Othman, who shared evidence-based strategies to enhance cochlear implant outcomes. Auditory Verbal Therapy was presented as a key approach that promotes spoken language through listening-based strategies. The workshop concluded by reinforcing that successful rehabilitation depends on multidisciplinary collaboration, early intervention, and strong family engagement.

The seminar focused on understanding autism across the spectrum, highlighting the diverse strengths, challenges, and supporting needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Identifying red flags, early diagnosis and early intervention were emphasized. Emphasis was placed on neurodiversity, strengths-based approaches, and inclusive practices that promote independence and well-being.
A central feature of the workshop was a panel discussion with parents of children highlighting different aspects across the spectrum. Parents shared personal experiences regarding diagnosis, navigating educational systems, accessing therapies, advocating for their children, and supporting transitions into adolescence and adulthood. The discussion provided practical insights, emotional perspectives, and real-world strategies, fostering empathy and deeper understanding among participants.

The workshop highlighted the expanding role of genetics in diagnosing and understanding complex neurodevelopmental conditions. Sessions covered the genetic basis of developmental disorders, with emphasis on early identification and targeted evaluation. Special focus was given to genetic patterns in families with consanguineous marriages, underscoring the importance of counseling and risk assessment. The workshop also explored brain white matter disorders, including leukodystrophies, and the role of advanced genetic testing in improving diagnosis and patient care. The session was led by eminent international experts, Prof. Henry Houlden (UK) and Dr. Karen Gununayagam (UK), together with national faculty members from the Department of Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics at the Children’s Hospital, Lahore.
Key topics included role of genetics in the children with developmental delay, unfolding genetics in families with consanguinity, brain white matter disorders and leukodystrophies affecting children and young adults.
The conference talk provided a comprehensive overview of the collaborative study involving children with intellectual disabilities, detailing the shared clinical characteristics, patterns of presentation, and evidence-based management approaches. It also emphasized the continued and expanding role of whole exome sequencing (WES) in the diagnostic workup of children with developmental delays, highlighting its value in improving diagnostic yield, guiding management decisions, informing prognosis, and supporting genetic counselling for families.

The event highlighted the importance of breaking barriers, challenging stigma, and strengthening community support systems.
Key sessions included a panel discussion with experts from healthcare, education, social services, and advocacy sectors. Panelists shared insights on inclusive policies, early intervention, assistive technologies, workplace inclusion, and community-based support. They also discussed current challenges and practical strategies to improve accessibility and participation across all areas of society.
A powerful segment of the workshop featured success stories from individuals with disabilities who shared their journeys of resilience, achievement, and empowerment. Their experiences underscored the importance of family support, inclusive education, mentorship, and self-advocacy.
The event also included addresses by experts who emphasized collaborative action among stakeholders. The workshop concluded with a call to action, encouraging participants to become advocates for accessibility, dignity, and equal rights for all.
A series of workshop on “Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Developmental Screening” were organized by Department of Developmental-Behavioural Pediatrics, UCHS & Children Hospital, Lahore as master trainers at the “Children’s Hospital Multan” and the “Children’s hospital Faisalabad” in collaboration with UNICEF. The sessions were designed to strengthen the capacity of Lady Health Supervisors and Lady Health Workers by enhancing their understanding of child growth and development, enabling them to recognize early indicators of developmental delays using SHAMAQ Developmental Screening Tool (SDST) and ECDI2030.They were encouraged to respond with timely and appropriate interventions or early referral to support healthy child outcomes.
Department of Developmental-Behavioural Pediatrics, UCHS & Children’s Hospital, Lahore conducted a workshop on “Screening for Success: Early Identification of Developmental Delays in Children” at the Pediatrics Department of Ghurki Trust and Teaching Hospital, Lahore. The workshop equipped pediatricians, post graduate residents and nurses with the knowledge about red flags of developmental delay and practical skills to screen children.
